Imagine yourself on the western slopes of the majestic Mount Elgon, where cool mist slowly descends onto fertile volcanic soils, and the air is filled with aromas of fresh rain and wild berries. Here, at an altitude of 1,800 meters above sea level in the Rift Valley region, lies the small WanRich Coffee farm, proudly run by Jane Wanjiku Kiriri — a woman who left her banking career to dedicate herself to specialty coffee.

Dense rows of SL28, Batian, and Ruiru coffee trees grow under the gentle Kenyan sun, which rarely heats the air above 28°C. The slow ripening of the cherries on these high-altitude slopes, combined with organic practices — no pesticides, hand weeding, and natural fertilizers — gives the coffee remarkable brightness and depth.

By the way, this lot is processed using the Wet Anaerobic method. The cherries ferment in sealed tanks under water without oxygen, slowing the process and allowing complex fruity notes to develop. This is followed by a classic washed process for clarity and elegance.

In the cup, you’ll catch the vibe of ripe berries: aromas of dried cherry and cranberry lure you in from the first breath, while the flavor unfolds with juicy cherry plum, sweet-and-tart cranberry, and rich cherry. The aftertaste is long and berry-forward, as if you’ve just picked fresh fruit from a bush on Elgon’s slopes.
